CHAPTER 1
1.1 Introduction

1) Jacob, a slave of God and of the Master Jesus the Anointed, to the twelve tribes in the dispersion, greetings:

2) Count it all as joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations,

3) knowing that the proving of your persuasion works patience,

4) and let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, having lacked in nothing.

5) But if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask from God Who gives to all in racial purity and Who is not dishonourable, and it will be given to him.

6) But let him ask in persuasion, doubting nothing, for the one doubting is like a wave of the sea, being driven and tossed by wind.

7) For let not that man be ‡{Gr. ѱυхή See Appendix 9}persuaded that he will receive anything from the Master —

8) he is a man with two lives and undependable in all of his ways.

9) But let the humble brother boast in his height;

10) and the rich in his humiliation, because he will pass away as the flower of grass.

11) For the sun rose with hot wind and dried the grass, and its flower fell out, and the beauty of its appearance perished; so also the rich one in his ways will fade away.

Introduction

THERE are literally hundreds of English translations of the New Testament available today. What then is the need for a new translation, and how does the Anointed Standard Translation (AST) satisfy that need? To begin to answer this question, we must learn something of the history of the English translations that are today popular, and we must learn something of the advances in Biblical sciences that have been made only recently.

The earliest English translations were made from the Latin Vulgate, an early translation of the Greek New Testament made by Jerome. The Vulgate was a poor translation of questionable Greek manuscripts when it was made, and in the more than 1,000 years that passed since the time of Jerome to the time of the first English translation of the Vulgate, the text of the Vulgate suffered both accidental and deliberate tampering. The results were poor English translations filled with additions and omissions from the text which are even less useful today than when they were made due to the antiquated nature of the English they contain.

Long before there was an Israel; long before there was a Moses, long before there was a tyrannical Egypt to come out of; there existed a Plan. The Plan was to gather all the world into the hands of Babylon ruled by a King whose land was organized as an episcopacy – rule from the top down.

Forever the WORD warns man against the Tower of Babel. In spite of constant warnings man continues to go to a new Canaanland and work to develop its wealth – only to lose it when Egypt closes in around him, takes his wealth, and reduces him to slavery.

The building of the Tower of Babel is so important that the WORD relates the story of Joseph, the favourite son of Abraham, and cast him in the role of the villain. As such there is no way that the story can be side-tracked except by those who do not wish to see, or those who cannot see.

SMEDLEY DARLINGTON BUTLER (July 30, 1881 – June 21, 1940) was a United States Marine Corps major general, the highest rank authorized at that time, and at the time of his death the most decorated Marine in U.S. history. During his 34-year career as a Marine, he participated in military actions in the Philippines, China, in Central America and the Caribbean during the Banana Wars, and France in World War I. Butler is well known for having later become an outspoken critic of U.S. wars and their consequences, as well as exposing the Business Plot, a purported plan to overthrow the U.S. government.

By the end of his career, Butler had received 16 medals, five for heroism. He is one of 19 men to receive the Medal of Honour twice, one of three to be awarded both the Marine Corps Brevet Medal and the Medal of Honour, and the only Marine to be awarded the Brevet Medal and two Medals of Honour, all for separate actions.

In 1933, he became involved in a controversy known as the Business Plot, when he told a congressional committee that a group of wealthy industrialists were planning a military coup to overthrow Franklin D. Roosevelt, with Butler selected to lead a march of veterans to become dictator, similar to other Fascist regimes at that time. The individuals involved all denied the existence of a plot and the media ridiculed the allegations. A final report by a special House of Representatives Committee confirmed some of Butler’s testimony.

Leicester and The Anti-Vaccination Movement 1853-1889

DURING THE NINETEENTH CENTURY AND ESPECIALLY AFTER AN ACT OF 1853 made it compulsory for all infants over four months old in England and Wales to be vaccinated, opposition to the practice of vaccination increased steadily.

A further tightening up of compulsory measures was made after the smallpox epidemic of 1871, as a result of which a Select Committee was appointed by the government. The report of this committee confirmed the principle of compulsion amongst other recommendations, and these were embodied in new legislation by an Act of 1871, which made the law so stringent that, between 1871-76, only four of the local Boards of Guardians proved obdurate.

Leicester is taken in this article as an example of a town where the opposition to vaccination was particularly marked and where, due to the agitation caused, the various anti-vaccination forces had their greatest success in bringing about a change in the 1871 Act[1].

From the turn of the nineteenth century, Leicester, like many other towns, experienced a great increase in population. Existing housing and sanitary arrangements, especially drainage, soon proved inadequate. Leicester had for long an unenviable reputation as a town where typhus and contagious fevers were rampant[2].

In 1842, Edwin Chadwick’s Report on the Sanitary condition of the Labouring Population of Great Britain appeared. This did much to focus attention on the whole question of sanitary hygiene and the public health. Leicester was one of the towns visited by Chadwick in his search for data. The result of his investigations was published in the Summary to the report[3],
